Metal parts are increasingly replaced by plastic parts. In motor vehicle construction, it is particularly essential for the attachment points of the plastic parts to be stabilised by metal bushings. A possible procedure is to fit the bushings into the plastic parts by hot insertion or cold pressing later on. For the quality of the screw connection, it is important for the bushing to protrude a specified amount.
In automatic machines, the insertion is performed by a ball spindle with a servomotor drive. In this process, the insertion depth is measured with a low contact force and continuously readjusted to compensate for the elastic deformation of the plastic part. The intelligent servo spindle press thus reduces the reject rate. The insertion positions of the bushings can be freely programmed in 3-4 degrees of freedom. The press stamp or the plastic part are positioned using servo axes. A process PLC provides the basis for controlled insertion. The system can be converted to handle another type of part with minimal expenditure.
