One cannot imagine modern life without electric motors. Whether you are adjusting the seat, window or mirror in an automobile, or using one of the many kitchen appliances at home, the same working principle applies: the rotary electric motor.
If you take the time to consider the number of electric motors you encounter in everyday life, you will arrive at an astonishing number. In order to meet this demand, manufacturers of electric motors need an extremely efficient and rationalised production.
Commutated universal motors are used in high-speed drives for example in vacuum cleaners, high-pressure cleaners, drills etc. In the plant shown, stators are being manufactured for these motors. The assembly line consists of an asynchronously linked linear transfer system with work piece carriers. This allows a high degree of flexibility. The following assembly stations are arranged on the transfer system:
- Loading
- Applying winding insulation
- Putting on insulating piece 1
- Turning
- Putting on insulating piece 2
- Winding 1
- Winding 2
- Mounting contacts
- Testing (resistance, high voltage, surge voltage)
- Labelling
- Palletizing
Every single work piece carriers bears a code carrier. This enables the current processing status to be ascertained. The ink jet printer prints the appropriate error codes on faulty parts. Finished stators are labelled with type identification and date of manufacture, and stacked in trays. The individual automatic stations work autonomously with process PLC controls, and are linked to a master control via a field bus for process visualisation.
